Subscribers (Add, Edit, Remove)

Add Subscribers

To add a single subscriber email address, simply type it in email address box and click ‘Add’.   By default, the server will send the new subscriber an email stating they were added to the list with the welcome message created by the list owner.   Check the “Quiet” checkbox if you do not the server to send the subscriber the welcome message, then click Add.

Multiple add

Click this button to add multiple email addresses to a list.   You can copy and paste up to 500 email addresses in the window but remember only one address per line.  Consider using a ‘Data Source‘ if you want to inherit subscribers from another list you own, or from a remote file you manage or from an LDAP/AD query.

Search for a Subscriber

Type in the email address for a user to search the mail list subscriber membership for that email.

Subscriber Table

The subscriber table displays all subscribers on the mail list and their source.  For example, subscribed means direct subscription.  If the subscriber came from another mail list or data source, this information will be displayed in the ‘Sources’ column.

Subscription reminder message

Click the ‘Remind all’ button to send each subscriber a reminder message about their subscription to the mail list.

Administrative Options

The server provides quick access to a number of tools for managing subscribers.  These include:

Pending subscriptions – the queue for subscription requests.

Pending unsubscriptions – The queue for unsubscribe requests when unsubscribe is restricted by the owner.  See Admin > Privileges – Who can unsubscribe for the permission setting.

Blocklist – the list of email addresses whose email is automatically discarded.   e.g.  rogue sender on the mail list.

Moderated Senders – a list of email addresses who are required to be moderated even if the ‘Who can send messages’ setting is set to subscribers, public, etc.  See Admin > Sending/receiving setup – Who can send messages setting for the mail list permission.  e.g. rant sender to the list.

Allow Senders – senders that will automatically get posted to the list no matter the ‘Who can send messages’ setting.  e.g.  Prof or TA sending email to student lists.

Bounces – the list of subscriber emails that are bouncing.

Dump – generates a list of email address for all subscribers on the list.

Dump with names – same as dump but also contains any gecos data if available.  Gecos data is optional and contains identifying data including name, title, etc…

Exclude – This is a list of subscribers who will be excluded from receiving posts from the mail list.   Email addresses land on this list when a subscriber unsubscribes from a list but remains on the list because of the owner’s unsubscribe policy.   See Admin > Privileges – Who can unsubscribe for the permission setting.  Email addresses are removed from this exclude list when they re-subscriber to the list.
